Short selling is the process of borrowing shares of stock in order to sell that stock at the current price in the hopes that the asset will fall. The seller then buys back the stock at a later date in order to repay their debt. This way of trading creates a symphony of changing stock prices with waves of false spikes in the equities market. It is buying with no intention of ownership.
